It's always nice to find selvedge from Japan that captures what the country does best: big weight, big texture all wrapped in a wonderful indigo package. The Japan Big Slub is a perfect example.
Gustin jeans made from sanforized raw selvedge denim from one of the finest mills in Japan. Sometimes beauty comes from subtle irregularity. Japan is able to capture this philosophy in selvedge denim better than any other country. When we think about the type of denim we want in our closet, this is a true example. First, you have a dark, pure indigo warp on a crisp white weft, giving you a great traditional denim look. The character in this denim comes from the yarn itself. This style uses extra slubby yarns which produce intense graininess both vertically and horizontally. Each spot where a thick yarn slub is present exposes more of the white weft giving the surface tremendous texture and a beautiful irregularity. Finally comes the weight. This is solid denim. At 16 ounces with plenty of starch, this denim is tough. A very cool, prominent wheat gold selvedge ID finishes it off. This is the quintessential top notch Japan selvedge denim.
This is the same style and quality that was sold in boutiques all over the country for $205+.
