To put it mildly, we review a lot of shirting fabric at Gustin. The best mills in Japan send us hundreds, if not thousands, of styles to review. It's some of the most beautiful fabric we ever get to see and our goal is to select styles that truly stand out. Today we have a perfect example of what Japan does best: respecting a classic while pushing the boundaries on ingredients and technique.
The Blackwatch pattern is one of the oldest tartan patterns. Aside from its rich history, it has become a bit of a darling in the shirting world. The deep, dark coloring is rich and slightly toned down. The dark blue-purple, emerald green and black work together perfectly to create a shirt that's balanced and timeless. Japan took this pattern and dialed up the construction, and we mean way up. This Black Watch is a monstrous 10 ounces. It feels like an incredibly dense felt yet it remains very pliable, giving this shirt huge substance, warmth and comfort. This is hands down one of the burliest shirting fabrics that you can actually enjoy wearing.
This shirt is sewn up in our new Rugged style. It's designed to be the perfect style for our heavier, more rustic fabrics we run. It's a bit more casual, without being over the top. This style is really set off by two key design cues: a perfectly sized collar without buttons and two clean button closure, rounded chest pockets. These two elements lend the style it’s more casual look while their clean implementation keeps the shirt versatile. A simpler back yoke replaces the box pleat and locker loop of our Classic style. Intricate stitching tacks down the collar stand. The Rugged style inherits the same core fit block from the updated Classic style. The moment we sewed up some flannels and heavy jacquards in this style we knew it was right.
Buttons downs that are made in the USA using our quality of material and construction are typically priced at $175 to $300. The Gustin model, with your support, lets us do much better.

What Customers Are Saying
"About a year ago, a coworker introduced me to Gustin (he rocks some of your pants to the office on the regular) and I have been watching the releases ever since. About three months ago, I finally backed a campaign. Since then, I have been so happy with all the pieces I have received."

"I wanted to tell you how much I love the rainbow nep natural t-shirts. After over a year of trying to find my everyday t-shirt, this is finally it. I have four of them now and they are basically all I wear."
-Anne F. | Verified Buyer
"I really love Gustin. I just don't think I'd choose another brand at any price point. And I love watching for new products/return of old favs. But a very important part of the experience is the great customer service."
