It's rare that the lead image we choose for a new selvedge denim is the back side, but in this case, it's the weft that transforms this classic Japanese selvedge from great to true collector status.
We love denim that showcases real experimentation while remaining understated. The beauty is there for those who understand the artistry involved. It can be appreciated by the wearer each time he puts the denim on but need not loudly announce itself to world. This special fabric embodies this philosophy.
When you first approach this fabric you can instantly sense you're dealing with a top quality, classic selvedge denim. You see a the rich, inky, pure blue color. You detect subtle vertical grain from slightly slubby yarns. You feel the crispy hand from the starch and the density of the 13.5 ounce weight. This denim is a textbook example of the character of denim Japan excels at. When you look just a bit more closely, the truly special nature of this denim begins to reveal itself. It starts with the way the weft shows through the top surface. On a pure white weft denim you get a very crisp brightness contrasting the warp, but on this style you see a much more subtle effect. It's just enough to catch your eye if you appreciate the details in your denim. The true reveal comes when you cuff the denim or just look at the backside. This is where the weft yarns, which have been bathed in green tea, truly show themselves. Although subtle, the tea gives the weft a slight green tint.
The green tea dye detail reminds us of the selvedge fly on our denim -- a seemingly small element, but one you can appreciate each time you put on our denim. Let's face it, it's also just cool to know you're walking around in a pair of jeans that almost nobody else in the world will have. We hope you enjoy these.
