This is the Gustin duffel - slightly updated for 2015. It's rugged, stylish and an amazing value. We make the products we want to use and our duffel is no exception. This duffel was built for our lives - for weekends at Tahoe, bonfires on Muir beach, and weekdays spent moving packages to the USPS office.
Our duffel is made from heavy-duty, plain weave, water repellant waxed cotton canvas sourced in the USA. Although similar in construction to our Trucker jacket fabric, this canvas is much heavier. Coming in at just under 20oz, it's built to last and gives the duffel real sturdiness. Our first release is in a rich navy color. Waxed canvas is beautiful from the start and ages gracefully. The waxed coating allows the fabric to age uniquely to you, and is water resistant. Each crease, each bend, each event in your life changes the texture and color. It scars and marks as the wax gets rubbed and displaced, becoming slightly lighter in those areas. It’s truly a thing of beauty.
Complementing the canvas is thick, oil tanned, full grain leather. This leather is a deep oil tanned brown shade. The oiling process makes for unique highs and lows that are different on every bag and that match perfectly to the texture of the waxed canvas. The same leather is used on the handles, shoulder pad, and side patch.
We also ensure our duffel construction is functional, tough and elegant. The overall shape of the bag is cylindrical. Each end of the bag has an open pocket for extra, easily accessible storage. On one side, you get a small open carry pocket as well. Leather handles are formed by hand from a single piece of leather that is stitched around the duffel and secured by a box stitch for strength. Small rectangular leather feet are stitched to the bottom of the duffel. The main compartment has leather runners that flank a brass #10 YKK zipper with two sliders for easy entry. It is open for maximum storage. The shoulder strap is adjustable 100% cotton webbing, with a high quality shoulder pad. The strap is secured by heavy duty solid brass swivel snaps and d-rings.
