This is the fabric that launched the entire Gustin line in premium boutiques across the country in 2011. #1 The Heavy holds a special place in our hearts and remains one of the most beautiful wearing selvedge denims we've found. Just take a look at these worn-in photos and you'll see what you'll have coming when you invest in this denim.
Gustin jeans made from sanforized raw selvedge denim from one of the finest mills in Japan. We chose this selvedge to launch the Gustin line because it was a beautiful example of a Japanese denim that would stand the test of time while still being unique. It's dense, heavy and crispy when raw. A beige tinted weft gives it a slightly dusty metallic look and results in a more muted dark indigo shade. It holds its color well and develops a unique leathery hand as it starts to wear in. As you can see from the photos, it fades down to the perfect medium blue with great vertical grain. It's absolutely gorgeous. It's a solid 13.75oz weight with a red selvedge ID. This is the denim that started it all for us and we'll be the first in line to get another pair started.
You may have seen the infamous shots of our first pair of jeans ever made that Josh has now owned for 3 years. Those are made from The Heavy fabric. We've included extra images so you can see how the denim wears. You're in store for that mythical, perfect medium blue fade with nice white highs and vertical grain. This fabric is just awesome.
We obsess over every detail of construction to make sure no corners are cut and everything is done authentically. We chain stitch waistband and cuffs with a subtle red thread on the bobbin. Back pockets are half-lined and finished with a unique double threaded stitch, a nod to the history of denim as a true working garment. The fly incorporates the selvedge for a totally clean finish despite the added cost. Bartacks are used to add strength at pocket, belt loop, inseam and cuff points. Belt loops are tucked under the waistband for added durability, which requires much more intricate handling. The front pocket hem is slightly built up for a nicer feel. We use completely custom shaped and finished buttons and rivets instead of the typical generics you find on most brands and we finish off with a subtle, dark leather patch. The leather comes from a tannery in Italy and is cut and stamped by hand in the Bay Area.
This is the same style and quality that was sold in boutiques all over the country for $205+.
