As we get deeper into the world of heavy twills there is only one direction to go . . . UP. Meet the Monster Twill: nine ounces, a colorful palette all woven right in Japan. This is a serious shirt.
This style uses cotton twill from one of the finest mills in Japan. Think of this as taking everything we loved about the Super Heavy twills we recently brought you to an even heavier level. The yarn is even bigger on this style. At this beefy 9 ounces it's the heaviest twill we've found and the yarn takes on a rope-like feel. The weave is also quite loose. Add the two together and you get a hugely substantial feel that is also incredibly soft and flowing. It's almost like our Super Heavy denim style - you can't imagine a fabric this heavy being so supple. It's as if you've stumble onto a vintage shirt that has been worn well and broken in over years, except this is just day one. The colors lend to the vintage feel. A palette of deep navy and bright sky blues define the base. White and grey channels serve as contrast and to slightly brighten up the overall shade. This shirt can take anything you can throw its way.
Our fit starts with a beautifully tailored body, not too slim, but definitely fitted. High armholes keep the body lines clean. The length hits just right so it looks great always. Scooped out sides give the untucked look a bit of extra style. A traditional button down collar is secured with two side buttons and one back and has a nice soft roll.
We labor over every construction detail. Extensive single needle stitching is used throughout. All our closures are made from true mother of pearl. A finely folded locker loop sits over a box pleat on the back yoke. The front placket is also pleated, made the right way, using a true two piece construction. The feel is more substantial and the effort higher, but it's the right way. An angular chest pocket completes the front. Our cuffs are double button with rounded corners.
Button downs that are made in the USA using our quality of material and construction are typically priced at $175 to $300. The Gustin model, with your support, lets us do much better.
