One of our favorite styles is back and according to the mill, it is deadstock - once it's gone, it's gone forever... The Super Heavy Twill is massively substantial, extra soft, vintage shade, woven in Japan -- it's as close to perfection as you can find.
This style uses cotton twill from one of the finest mills in Japan. When you enter the world of super heavy fabrics, things change. Texture, colors and shades all become heightened in a way that creates something you want to own forever. This is precisely what set us off hunting for a superheavy twill, and this one nails it. The yarn and weave is really what sets the stage. At this beefy 8 ounce weight, the yarn takes on a rope-like feel. The weave is also quite loose. Add the two together and you get a hugely substantial feel that is also incredibly soft and flowing. It's almost like our Super Heavy denim style - you can't imagine a fabric this heavy being so supple. It's as if you've stumble onto a vintage shirt that has been worn well and broken in over years, except this is just day one. The colors lend to the vintage feel. A palette of muted royal and sky blues pair with white and a splash of red in a traditional plaid pattern. This fabric makes for truly special shirt you'll enjoy for years.
Our fit starts with a beautifully tailored body, not too slim, but definitely fitted. High armholes keep the body lines clean. The length hits just right so it looks great always. Scooped out sides give the untucked look a bit of extra style. A traditional button down collar is secured with two side buttons and one back and has a nice soft roll.
We labor over every construction detail. Extensive single needle stitching is used throughout. All our closures are made from true mother of pearl. A finely folded locker loop sits over a box pleat on the back yoke. The front placket is also pleated, made the right way, using a true two piece construction. The feel is more substantial and the effort higher, but it's the right way. An angular chest pocket completes the front. Our cuffs are double button with rounded corners.
Button downs that are made in the USA using our quality of material and construction are typically priced at $175 to $300. The Gustin model, with your support, lets us do much better.
