Our most versatile jacket yet, the Gustin City Coat is the perfect combination of rugged roots with a touch of refinement. This time, our favorite waxed canvas color makes for the perfect companion to your denim.
When we find a fabric that we like, we tend to try and use it in as many styles as possible - the city coat was no exception. The Gustin City Coat uses waxed cotton duck from the United States. It has a plain weave and is a solid 13.5oz to give it good body but not feel too stifling in jacket form. The base color is a rich, deep brown. The waxed coating makes things much more interesting: the fabric ages uniquely to you, just like a finely tanned leather. Each crease, each bend, each event in your life changes the texture and color. It scars and marks as the wax gets rubbed and displaced, becoming slightly lighter in those areas. It’s truly a thing of beauty and it looks particularly amazing in the city coat.
We went all out on construction and fit for this coat. We love our Truckers and Chore Coats, but they tend to be squarely in the casual realm. This style combines the best workwear elements of a chore coat with the more refined fit and style cues of a blazer.
Refinement starts with fit and this is our most tailored style yet. It has a slim silhouette that tappers nicely through the body. The sides are darted to help create shape and a lend a nice visual texture. The arms are slender and slightly curved which enhances the crisp look. The shoulders are fitted to create a clean appearance at the top with no excess fabric bunching. Formal lapels lend a refined look while the inclusion of four patch pockets adds a more rugged counter balance. Construction details on this coat were a priority for us. There is significant single needle work to set the lapels and collar perfectly. Inside seams are cleanly finished. There are two single needle sewn interior pockets, each secured with our custom shaped and engraved corozo buttons. There are four patch pockets, each edge set first and then top stitched and secured with bar tacks. This extra setting step ensures there is no excess material coming up around the pockets.
Jackets like ours that are made in the USA using our quality of material and construction are typically priced at $260 or higher. The efficiency of the Gustin model, with your support, lets us do much better.
